JDiskReport is a tool developed in Java that lets you visually check how your disc's storage capacity is being used. It's especially useful when you want to find unwanted large files you don't need to keep.
It presents this information with different types of graphics:
- Size perspective, which shows a pie chart with the files and folders taking up the most space.
- Size distribution, which shows all the files in a bar chart, grouping them in different size intervals.
- Modified distribution, which groups files on a bar chart according to the last date on which they were modified.
- Type Distribution, which does the same thing but according to the format of the files (MP3, AVI, DOC, etc.), and using a pie chart.
Lastly, JDiskReport includes a feature called top50 that shows which 50 files are taking up the most space, the 50 oldest files, or the 50 most recent files.
Analyzing an entire disc unit takes some time, but once it's completed you don't to have to wait every time you select a different folder in the tree diagram.
